Taking Control of Your Work, Wealth, Worth and Well-being.

Work

The passion you bring to your daily life, whether compensated or not. Requiring intention, practice and perseverance. Many of us have had multiple careers, including being stay-at-home moms.

Wealth

True wealth goes beyond money.  It encompasses your dreams, relationships you want to keep, and your deepest desires, including taking care of your financial future.

Worth

The hidden gem! This is your inner compass. When your head, your heart, and your soul are aligned, you do your best work. You begin to fully recognize your value and advocate for yourself with confidence.

Well-being

The foundation for it all.  Prioritizing and including self-care to your daily life allows you to meet life's curveballs with resilience, as well as celebrate every win, big or small, at every stage of your life.

Founded in 2014, The Savvy Women Community was built with a bold mission: to encourage and empower as many women (and girls!) to take control of their work, wealth, worth and well-being. We believe that a woman's path to fulfillment is rooted into these four pillars. Molded by our life experiences, in varying depths and timelines, we visualize, reflect, and design a life that we truly, wholly want. With every step and every connection, YOU, a savvy woman, gain the clarity and confidence to make empowering decisions toward a healthy, vibrant and abundant life.

YOUR INVITATION

We encourage you to share your journey - your stories of strength and triumph, as you continue to take control of your work, wealth, worth and well-being.  As your story could be the one that motivates another to pursue and not give up as she goes through her own.

We believe that every woman has an innate passion to nurture and the willingness to contribute to bigger cause.  We believe that when women come together, they not only form deep and lasting friendships, but also experience true fulfillment, abundance and joy.

How It All Began

The Story Behind 36 Quick Tips for Savvy Women

Over a decade ago, Marilyn attended a women’s conference with a room full of alumnae from Wharton and Harvard with topics centered around their careers, work-life balance and financial goals.  Several questions were raised, and a few were about learning how to advance in their own careers, asking for a raise and how to get ahead of the game. This sparked the idea for Marilyn to write a book to provide support and offer tips that aim to help all women to gain even more confidence in managing their careers, their money and overall well-being.

Taking Control of Your Work, Your Wealth and Your Worth served as the founding principles of the Savvy Women Community for over a decade. On it’s 10 Year Anniversary in 2024, Marilyn has decided to add a critical 4th pillar, Well-being.

This book is what we now enjoy reading – the 36 Quick Tips for Savvy Women, Taking Control of Your Work, Your Wealth, Your Worth and Your Well-being.  Now on its 4th Edition, it has been widely distributed through many of Marilyn’s educational seminars and beyond, through The Diamond Group Wealth Advisors.  In 2018, Marilyn has developed women seminars on financial fitness, estate planning and well-being to equip Savvy Women members as they go through every stage of life.  From managing their careers, raising a family, planning for retirement or preparing for their 2nd Act.  Whether you are married, single, or divorced, all are welcome to join the Savvy Women Community.

So I invite you to join me in my passion and mission in building our Savvy Women community. TOGETHER, we can "Build a Brighter Future for All Women"

Over The Years

About Marilyn Suey : Founder, The Savvy Women Community

Marilyn's Early Childhood Shaped Her Life's Mission

Marilyn's Early Childhood Shaped Her Life's Mission

For the first three years of my life, I have no vivid memories, only deep-seated feelings.  I heard, “She looks too Japanese” by the Chinese couples or, “She looks too Chinese” by the Japanese couples. This was post-World War II, where the Japanese and the Chinese were “arch enemies” and culturally at opposite poles, even in the US.
I lived in foster homes in those years.  I was given up at birth in the greater San Francisco area due to my cultural heritage --Japanese/Chinese.  While other kids were adopted and moved out quickly, I remained.  It was until Pearl and George visited and rescued me and started my journey as Marilyn Suey.

My beloved parents tried to raise me to be a well-behaved young girl and my father, mentored me to always try to do my best in school and in anything I did. They both knew that as a young woman, I had to stand out, “be better” as again, female, and a minority as well.  “You see those young boys?  Those are your competitors”, my father George pointing out and encouraging me to do my best in every endeavor.

Marilyn shares her early childhood that shaped her life's mission: "To Build A Brighter Future for All Women."

Career

When I joined corporate America in the 1970s, climbing the corporate ladder was rather challenging.  There was a constant need to go against the current considering being female, Asian and the industry I was in - technology.  My mind was set to not give up throughout my career.  I succeeded with several stints as a C-level executive, including CEO.
When I retired from the technology industry, I was ready to take on another male-dominated industry – financial advisory and wealth management.  I have observed that we have a long way to go to truly have diversity in this industry.  Although there are several women like me making strides as wealth managers, we are a growing minority.

Purpose and Passion

Here lies my passion for spreading as much knowledge as I can. To hopefully inspire young women and girls that you need not relent to others when it comes to your future financial needs.  Understanding your numbers may fuel you and encourage you to seek more knowledge to give you clarity. You know when you have control over your finances, you will feel accomplished, independent and ready to take the next step.
I believe that when one understands their numbers, it fuels them to pursue their true passion without thinking about any hindrances or excuses.
This is the idea that fueled me to author and co-author several books such as 36 Quick Tips, Serving Leader, Retire Abundantly, Build Wealth Like A Shark.  I continue to write blogs reflecting on every learning or nugget as I serve and support my wealth planning clients as they go through their unique journeys. I also touch on the lifestyle shifts as I go through my own journey as a mother, a leader managing my business, and friend who chooses to offer support as I can.
Over a decade ago, in 2014, I founded the Savvy Women Community to educate all women to Take Control of their Work, Wealth, Worth and Wellbeing.  The idea is to remove shame, to have an open conversation and make decisions about their money.
